RMA acquired the commission to design the 6 000m² GIPF Head Office in Windhoek through an architectural competition. The
brief Challenged the Architect for a Building that was both cost effective, to construct and maintain, whilst striking in appearance.
The parking structure was placed above ground, saving cost and providing much needed height to the office floors. The services and
circulation was removed from the office floor plate, this freed up valuable office space and allowed for a shallow floor plate depth.
The U-shaped building allows for maximum northern exposure. This together with the shallow floor plate allows natural light to infiltrate all areas. The government attributes the success of the Government Investment Pension Fund (GIPF)to the fact that it has successfully broken away from the past and is applying new and innovative ideas and methods. They require their buildings to demonstrate the above spirit and performance.
