Rynand Mudge has been in private practice in Namibia since 1987. The practice, based in Windhoek, specializes in commercial architecture. RMA recently (2021) was awarded the tender to develop a office precinct in Windhoek worth several hundreds of millions of Namibia Dollars by effectively outperforming 10 of the country’s top architectural practices. 

Very soon after its inception, Rynand Mudge Architects (RMA) developed a set of complementary professional service offerings to meet the needs of demanding clients in a burgeoning post-independence economy. This “portfolio” approach to the service offerings of the company has led to significant successes in commercial property development. With an early focus on value creation, rather than design services only, the company has been able to assist its clients in various ways. Services include project management, project financing and project sourcing.

RMA’s diverse client portfolio spans everything from government, governmental agencies, educational institutions, retail, financial and commercial entities.

Over the years RMA has enjoyed critical acclaim and numerous peer recognitions for design excellence, both in residential and commercial projects. The practice’s creative versatility is demonstrated by imaginative design: from large office buildings to smaller public sector structures, as well as several award-winning private residences. 

A critical differentiator for RMA’s success has been the investment in, and appropriate use of, proprietary software that stretches beyond project management capabilities. The software allows an entire project to become visible in real time – including financial modelling capabilities, tracking of adjacent legal processes, precise control of materials and supply chain management. The use of a scalable tool like this, unparalleled in SADC countries, produces clarity and business insight that has earned the confidence of some of the biggest financial institutions in southern Africa.

RMA won the commission for the new GIPF head office through an architectural competition in 1997.  An extended service of managing the leasing of the building was offered - it was fully leased before construction was completed. From the outset the project was a great commercial success and at one time was the top performer in the Sanlam Investment Property Portfolio. This kind of performance gives financiers a great peace of mind.
